ORRICK WINS ILLINOIS PGA PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
Steve Orrick won his first Illinois PGA major championship after severe weather forced the cancellation of the final major on the Illinois PGA calendar - the Illinois PGA Players Championship, which took place at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Ill.
The 36-hole, stroke play event was scheduled to take place October 6-7 on the North Course and The General, respectively. However, heavy rains throughout the day rendered the golf course unplayable, resulting in the event being shortened to 18-holes.
Orrick, head golf professional at Country Club of Decatur, carded an opening round three-under par 69, which was two strokes better than a trio of competitors. His round included four birdies and one bogey. This was the second consecutive Illinois PGA major championship that Orrick played in the final group. In the Nadler Golf 86th Illinois PGA Championship, Orrick finished second to champion Mike Small.
Steve Murray, PrairieView G.C., Scott Baines, Bryn Mawr C.C. and Rich Dukelow, Cantigny Golf, finished tied in second place with an opening round 18-hole total of 71 (-1).
The Illinois PGA would like to thank Eagle Ridge Resort and the staff for hosting this event. |
