THE LINKS TECHNOLOGY ILLINOIS SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2008 Links Technology Illinois Senior Open Championship, (September 22-23), is underway at Schaumburg (Ill.) Golf Club. This marks the third consecutive year that Schaumburg G.C. hosts this prestigious event. Schaumburg-based Links Technology will once again be the title sponsor of the 2008 Illinois Senior Open Championship.
Two competitors are tied atop the leaderboard at the end of the first round of play. Jim Sobb of Barrington, IL, and Jerry Vidovic of Alsip, IL, both posted 3-under-par 72 to enjoy a share of the lead heading into Tuesday's final round. Four players are only one shot behind the leaders. Terry Russell of Lincolnwood, IL, Mike Harrigan of Chicago, IL, Peter Latkiewicz of Aurora, IL, and amateur Jim Vaughan of Chicago, IL, carded 2-under-par 70.
The final round field will see its fair share of past champions. Scheduled for play on Tuesday are: Defending champion Billy Rosinia; Michael Harrigan (2001, 2001, 2004, 2005); Steve Dunning (1997); Bill Erfurth (1999); Gary Groh (2000, 2003); and Bob Mack (2006).
The 2008 starting field was comprised of 142 participants including 77 amateurs and 7 past champions. The first round was held Monday, September 22 at 7:30 a.m. off the first and tenth tees, followed by the final round on Tuesday, September 23.
The Links Technology Illinois Senior Open Championship is a two-day, 36-hole stroke play event to determine the finest senior player in the state of Illinois. The field size is limited to 144 participants and is open to all Illinois residents who have a handicap of 12.0 or less and have reached their 50th birthday by September 22, 2008. |
